Poem for the week: "Hutzpah"

Hutzpah

He preached his sermon for millions on
Sunday morning TV, condemning everyone
for their sins, stirring up all the guilt he could
from forgotten memories, and then he said,
“Now, I want you to take out your cheque
book and give until it hurts.” And he waited
just long enough to make one feel guilty for
even thinking of not donating, and then
he said, “And now double it!”

Poem for the week: "Mending the Circle"

Mending the Circle

You cannot mend a crack
in the basement by putting
new shingles on the roof,
nor can you fix a leaky faucet
by painting the living room,
or fix a broken relationship
by making new friends;
the circle has to be mended
where it has been broken,
or the soul will never
be whole.
