A Metanoic Change of Heart
What I like most about the man
is his ego-driven character whose
enormous, over-inflated ego got
away on him and life had to bring
him down, as it does to those people
whose huge ego impedes their soul’s
journey to wholeness. And when
all the suffering and grief of his
devastating humiliation had served
its karmic purpose, Conrad Black
had a metanoic change of heart that
made him a much better man, as
he revealed to Steve Paikin on
TVO’s The Agenda.

By framing his observation around Canadian businessman Conrad Black's highly publicized legal downfalls, public humiliation, and subsequent prison time, Stocco treats Black's life not as a simple legal drama, but as a universal story about the human soul's path to wholeness. The poem addresses several core themes:
The Ego as an Obstacle to the Soul
Stocco asserts that an over-inflated, dominant
ego is a major barrier to deep spiritual development. When a person becomes
entirely consumed by pride, power, or status, their outward identity blocks
their internal "soul's journey." The ego must be broken down for real
internal growth to begin.
