Sunday poem: "The Life of Lady Nobody"

The Life of Lady Nobody

How easily we are deceived

by looks, charm, and brilliance;

but when all the glitter has worn thin,

what’s left is nothing but sin. Years

ago, I read her first memoir, taken

by her prescient view on life, her need

to answer “all those nagging little

metaphysical questions,” but along

life’s seductive ways, four husbands

later, unconscionable cash flow, and

an extravagance that knew no bounds,

her looks, charm, and brilliance have

all but disappeared, leaving behind

a trail of knotted words, and a stench

to high heaven; such was the life

of Lady Nobody.
